The story follows Elara Vance, a journalist in a loveless marriage to wealthy businessman Sebastian Thorne. Elara has yet to recover from the pain of her ex-boyfriend Harrison's betrayal. Sebastian, on the other hand, secretly loves her deeply, but his manner is harsh and possessive. When Elara learns that Harrison left her under duress (with Gwen's help), she suffers an emotional breakdown.
